Open Monitoring meditation is similar to Focused Attention meditation. If focused attention is the "breath" show, then Open Monitoring is the "thoughts" show. In this one, you just take a step back and watch what your brain is doing. Almost like watching a blank TV. Eventually, your mind will start to wander. All you do is watch it wander. It’d be like if you were watching that blank TV and a sitcom popped up for 10 seconds. You just take a quick mental note that… a sitcom just popped up for 10 seconds. This might look like a sound popping up during your practice. You make a mental note that your brain just jumped over to that sound. You are an observer of your mind and thought patterns.
